You’ve Googled it a hundred times: how to vet an infant care center in Singapore.
You’ve scrolled reviews at midnight. Screenshotted a few Instagram posts. Maybe even driven past a center just to “see the vibe.”
And somewhere in there, a small voice asked: am I overthinking this?
You’re not. Your baby can’t tell you if something feels wrong. That’s not paranoia — that’s you doing your job.
So here’s the checklist we wish every parent had before walking into any infant care center — ours included.
1. Who’s actually in the room with your baby?
Not just “how many staff.” Ask:
- What’s the staff-to-baby ratio, and does it change during nap time or lunch?
- Are caregivers trained specifically in infant development — or just childcare in general?
- How long have they been with the center? High turnover is a quiet red flag.
A trained Eduplay facilitator and a babysitter are not the same thing. One is managing the day. The other is shaping it.
2.What happens in the hours you don’t see?
Ask for more than a peek. Ask for the pattern:
- Can you view a sample daily schedule, not just a highlight reel?
- Is there CCTV access — and just as important, is someone actually reviewing it, or is it just for show?
- What’s the protocol if your baby is unsettled, feverish, or simply having an off day?
If a center hesitates here, that’s your answer.
3. How clean is clean — really?
Germs are the silent worry every parent carries. Get specific:
- How often are toys, mats, and shared surfaces sanitized, and with what?
- Is there a clear sick-child policy that’s actually enforced, not just written somewhere?
- How is food and milk handled — labelled, stored, and prepared for each baby individually?
“We’re very clean” isn’t an answer. A described process is.
4.What’s the emergency plan — before you need one?
Hope for the best, but ask anyway:
- Is staff trained in infant first aid and CPR? How recently?
- What’s the exact protocol if your baby needs medical attention — and how fast are you contacted?
- Is there a nurse or trained first-responder on-site, or on call?
You’re not expecting the worst. You’re making sure someone else already has.
5. Does your baby’s personality actually matter here?
This is the one most checklists skip.
- Is the program flexible to your baby’s temperament, or is every baby run through the same routine?
- Do caregivers track and share individual milestones, or just general updates?
- Can you ask questions and get real answers — not scripted reassurance?
A good center doesn’t just care for your baby. It gets to know this baby.
You’re not being difficult. You’re being thorough.
